My trip @ the E.R.
Spent the night last night at the Emergency Room of the hospital where I am currently working. Not as a nurse but as a patient. Here's what happened...

Was having dinner when I ve noticed that I have trouble breathing. My breathing was not labored but i felt like I was not getting enough air.I took a shower with the thought that I will feel better afterwards.I did feel better for a few minutes after the shower but I felt the same thing later on.I ignored it and headed for work...

Was already at the carpark garage of the hospital when I felt nauseous and dizzy...my head felt "very light"...I knew that I wasn't really feeling well at that time..minus the trouble breathing..At that point,I believed that I was breathing fine...

Went straight to the Emergency Room instead...It was a long wait before I was finally seen...E.R. was unbelievably crowded...

My initial blood pressure was unbelievably high a, whooping 148/85 and a heart rate of 125!Then I felt shaky...my legs were shaking uncontrollably...sign of anxiety they said...i was anxious about my vital signs I guess, and E.R. is one of the least places I want to be...I certainly didn't wanna be there(as a patient)...i don't want to be a patient of course!

But my nurse Judith was nice..She is originally from jamaica but was a Canadian resident...

Was hooked up to the cardiac monitor and cant help but to check on my rhythm he he he...And it was a normal Sinus Rhythm thank God...Never got the chance to really check on my heart rhythm even if I work on a telemetry floor..EKG was done and it came back OK...

Blood was drawn from me and I was told that they were suspecting P.E. or Pulmonary Embolism. They did Chest Xray and I was immediately told that it was OK and normal.

And then I waited and waited and waited for the blood results...I was slowly feeling better except for the headache that i got because of the crazy E.R. scenario I think and I was given Tylenol that immediately provided relief....

By 1100 pm(after 4 hours!)I was finally told that all blood results came back all ok and normal.I dont have P.E. in short! But I have to wait for the Attending Physician to see me before they can send me home daw...so I waited again...but by the time the Attending Physician saw me,my nausea was back and I was finally given Phenergan IV (medication for nausea) and I ended up having ultrasound of the abdomen which again turned out fine and normal...They finally discharged me at around 530 am..

And my final set of vital signs were BP of 115/73 and heart rate of 83.Final diagnosis?Apparently mild viral GI infection....So there you go..I am feeling completely fine
